my favorite recipe from my friend dianne who requested this as a birthday cake from her gramma when she was a child. i love to make this cake, but its even better when dianne makes it!

Steps

  1. Combine flour
  2. Cinnamon and baking soda and set aside
  3. In a large mixing bowl
  4. Stir together apples and 1 1 / 4 c sugar
  5. Add eggs
  6. Oil and vanilla
  7. Combining well
  8. Gradually stir in flour mixture
  9. Continue stirring until all flour has been mixed in
  10. Do not use an electric mixer
  11. Mixture will be very thick
  12. Spread in 9x13 pan
  13. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour at 350
  14. Cake is done when toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean
  15. After cake has been baking for 25 minutes begin to make the topping
  16. Heat butter sugars and water until melted in medium saucepan
  17. Stirring frequently
  18. Add 2 tbs flour
  19. Cook over low until it thickens and is less cloudy
  20. Remove from heat and add 1 tsp vanilla
  21. When cake is done
  22. Spread topping over all and allow to cool
