Steps

  1. Wash the dhal
  2. In a large saucepan add dhal
  3. 2 cups of water
  4. Spinach
  5. Tomatoes
  6. Onion
  7. Chillies
  8. And cook over med-high heat until lentils are very tender
  9. In another pan
  10. Add 1 tsp oiland add mustard & cumin seeds
  11. After the mustard starts popping
  12. Add dry red chillies and curry leaves
  13. Saute for 35 seconds
  14. And then pour the cooked dal over this
  15. Add red chilli powder
  16. Garam masala
  17. Turmeric
  18. Sugar
  19. Salt to taste
  20. Mix well
  21. Cover & bring to boil & simmer for 2-3 minute stir in lemon juice & turn off stove
  22. Serve hot with rice
