  1. Combine flour
  2. Sugar
  3. 1 / 3 cup cocoa and baking powder in a large bowl
  4. Stir in milk and applesauce until dry ingredients are moistened
  5. Fold in cherries and pecans
  6. Spoon batter into a greased and floured 13 by 9 inch pan
  7. Combine brown sugar
  8. Hot water and 1 / 4 cup cocoa in medium bowl until smooth
  9. Pour over batter
  10. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes or until set
  11. Serve warm or at room temperature
