  1. In a small saucepan over low heat
  2. Melt caramels with 1 / 3 cup milk
  3. Meanwhile
  4. In a mixing bowl
  5. Cream butter
  6. Add cake mix and remaining milk
  7. Mix well
  8. Pour half of the batter into a greased 9 x 13 inches baking pan
  9. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes
  10. Sprinkle chocolate chips over batter
  11. Gently spread caramel mixture over chips
  12. Spread remaining batter evenly over caramel layer
  13. Return to the oven for 15 minutes
