  1. In a microwave safe bowl
  2. Combine the caramels and water
  3. Microwave
  4. Uncovered
  5. On high for 1 minute
  6. Stir
  7. Microwave 30-45 seconds longer or until caramels are melted
  8. Insert wooden sticks into apples
  9. Dip apples into the caramel mixture
  10. Turning to coat
  11. Coat with nuts
  12. Set on waxed paper to cool
  13. Melt chocolate chips and shortening
  14. Drizzle over apples
  15. Sprinkle with toffee bits
  16. Set on waxed paper to cool
  17. Cut into wedges to serve
