Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350f
  2. Grease and flour 12 standard-size muffin cups
  3. Set aside
  4. Filling: combine the peanut butter and sugar in a small bowl until well blended
  5. Set aside
  6. Cupcakes: combine the cocoa powder and hot water in a cup until smooth
  7. Set aside
  8. In a small bowl
  9. Whisk together the flour
  10. Baking powder
  11. Baking soda
  12. And salt
  13. Set aside
  14. In a medium bowl
  15. Using an electric mixer on high speed
  16. Cream the butter and peanut butter until light and creamy
  17. Slowly blend in the brown sugar
  18. Lower the mixer speed to medium
  19. Blend in the egg yolks
  20. One at a time
  21. Blend in the cocoa mixture
  22. Then the vanilla
  23. Blend well
  24. Lower mixer speed to low
  25. Blend in the flour mixture alternately with the milk
  26. Beginning and ending with the flour mixture and beating just until combined
  27. Spoon about 2 / 3 of the batter into the prepared tins
  28. Top with equal amounts of filling
  29. Then the remaining batter
  30. Smooth tops
  31. Bake until tops are cracked
  32. Edges are springy
  33. And centers are still soft when pressed gently with a finger
  34. Cool in the tins slightly before removing
  35. Frost or glaze with your favorite topping
