chocolate brownie cake with double chocolate frosting


this cake is time consuming to mix up, but not difficult. it is rich with a fudge-like frosting. the original recipe called for stirring into the cake batter 1 cup of chopped pecans and sprinkling a second cup over the frosting.

  1. Stir or whisk together 1 cup flour
  2. 2 tsp baking powder
  3. And 1 / 4 tsp salt and set aside
  4. In a large bowl
  5. Cream 6 t butter and 1 cup sugar until light
  6. Add egg yolks
  7. One at a time
  8. Beating well after each addition
  9. Add 1 1 / 2 tsp vanilla and melted unsweetened chocolate and blend well
  10. Add dry ingredients alternately with 6 t milk
  11. Beating well after each addition
  12. In another large bowl
  13. With clean dry beaters
  14. Beat the egg whites until foamy
  15. Add 1 / 4 cup sugar and beat until egg whites stand in firm
  16. Glossy moist peaks
  17. Folk half into batter
  18. Then fold in the rest
  19. Pour batter into greased 11x7x1 1 / 2-inch sheet pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean
  20. In a large bowl
  21. Cream 1 / 2 cup butter until light
  22. Add the vanilla
  23. Salt
  24. And melted semisweet choclate and beat well
  25. Sift the cocoa into the butter mixture and beat again
  26. Add the powdered sugar 1 / 2 cup at a time
  27. Beating well after each addition
  28. Stir in as much of the 3-4 t of milk as you like until the frosting reaches spreading consistency
  29. Frost cake and enjoy !
