  1. Preheat the oven to 350
  2. Cut the rib slabs in half
  3. Leaving 6 to 8 ribs per section
  4. In a large roasting pan
  5. Arrange the ribs evenly
  6. Then add the water
  7. Cover the pan tightly with a lid or foil to prevent steam from escaping
  8. Bake for 3 hours
  9. About 2 hours into the baking time
  10. Make the sauce
  11. In a large saucepan
  12. Combine all the sauce ingredients
  13. Simmer over low heat for 1 hour
  14. Stirring occasionally
  15. Prepare the coals in a barbecue
  16. Remove the ribs from the roasting pan
  17. Discard the water
  18. Cover the ribs with the sauce
  19. Saving about 1 1 / 2 cups of the sauce for later use at the table
  20. Grill the ribs on the barbecue for about 5 minutes per side
  21. Or until slightly charred
  22. Serve with the remaining sauce and lots of paper towels or moist towelettes
  23. Alternate slow cooker directions: place the ribs in a slow cooker
  24. Pouring the sauce over
  25. Let cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours until the meat is very tender
