  1. Add the yeast to one cup of the scalded
  2. Cooled milk to proof
  3. Mix the butter
  4. Sugar
  5. Salt and flour together
  6. Beat the egg and add to the remaining milk
  7. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the milk / egg mixture
  8. Mix well
  9. Add milk / yeast mixture
  10. Mix well
  11. Turn out of bowl and knead until no longer sticky
  12. Replace in bowl
  13. Cover
  14. And let rise until doubled
  15. Punch down and let rise again until doubled
  16. While dough is rising for the second time
  17. Preheat oven to 375f
  18. Form into loaves on a greased cookie sheet
  19. Bake for approximately 35 minutes or bread sounds hollow when thumped
  20. During the last ten minutes of baking
  21. Brush with an egg wash for a dark golden crust
