  1. In a small saucepan
  2. Simmer fruit in water until tender
  3. About 15 minutes
  4. Stir in sugar & mace
  5. Mix cornstarch with cold water
  6. Then add it to the fruit mixture
  7. Cook over medium heat until thickened
  8. Stirring constantly
  9. But carefully to avoid breaking up the fruit
  10. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving cold
  11. As is
  12. With cream
  13. Or over a custard or pudding
