sweet and creamy cooked dressing on a beautiful old fashioned salad. from a 1960 cookbook "pennsylvania dutch cooking". i usually peel the apples and omit the nuts.

Steps

  1. For dressing
  2. Combine egg with sugar and beat well
  3. Stir in flour and mustard
  4. Add mixture to heated water and vinegar in a small heavy saucepan
  5. Cook
  6. Stirring constantly
  7. Over low heat until thick
  8. 2-3 minutes
  9. Season to taste with salt and pepper
  10. Cool
  11. In a medium bowl
  12. Mix the 4 salad ingredients
  13. Pour the cooled dressing over and mix well
  14. Garnish with parsley and chopped nuts
  15. As desired
  16. Serve chilled
