  1. In a dutch oven over high heat cook ground beef and onions until beef is browned and juices have evaporated
  2. Add the tomatoes
  3. Tomato paste
  4. Sugar
  5. Salt
  6. Oregano leaves
  7. Thyme leaves
  8. Red pepper flakes
  9. Garlic salt
  10. And bay leaf
  11. Heat mixture until boiling
  12. Reduce heat and simmer
  13. Stirring occasionally
  14. For 30 minutes
  15. Discard the bay leaf and spoon off any grease that has accumulated on top of the sauce
  16. Set aside
  17. In another dutch oven boil water
  18. Add lasagna noodles
  19. And cook until tender
  20. Drain well in colander and set aside
  21. Preheat oven to 375f in a 13x9-inch baking dish add half of the lasagna noodles layering as you go
  22. In a small bowl add ricotta cheese and eggs
  23. Beat well until combined
  24. Spoon half of this mixture over the layered lasagna noodles and half of the meat sauce
  25. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese over this layer
  26. Repeat layers and bake in oven for 45 minutes
  27. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before serving
