Steps

  1. Dilute the tamarind pulp in a bowl with 4 tbsps
  2. Of water
  3. Making sure that there are no lumps and keep aside
  4. Wash the lentils
  5. Bring the lentils to a boil in 2 cups of water
  6. Allow to simmer until nearly done
  7. Add turmeric powder
  8. Tamarind water
  9. Green chillies
  10. Jaggery
  11. Peanuts and salt
  12. Simmer until dal is cooked
  13. Heat oil in a small pan
  14. Add mustard seeds
  15. Allow to crackle
  16. Add cumin seeds
  17. Hing
  18. Fenugreek seeds and curry leaves
  19. Remove from flame after a minute
  20. Pour the oil and spices into the lentils
  21. Serve hot garnished with corriander leaves
  22. This is best served with hot steamed white basmati rice
  23. It makes a great afternoon lunch that is easily digestible
  24. Hearty in character and tasty too !
