Steps

  1. Cook bacon in large saucepan over medium heat until crisp
  2. Transfer to paper towels using slotted spoon and drain
  3. Pour off all but 1 t
  4. Drippings from pan
  5. Add butter and ccok until butter begins to brown slightly
  6. Mix in orzo and stir for 30 seconds or so
  7. Add 4 1 / 2 cups of the broth and simmer
  8. Uncovered
  9. Until orzo is tender
  10. But still firm to the bite and broth is absorbed
  11. Stirring often
  12. About 8 minutes
  13. Add cream and bring to low simmer
  14. Stir in cheese and thyme and them bacon
  15. Season with salt and pepper to taste and thin with additional broth
  16. If desired
  17. Serve immediately
