Steps

  1. In a large skillet
  2. Brown meat in oil on all sides
  3. Transfer meat and drippings to a 5-qt
  4. Slow cooker
  5. Combine the onion
  6. Celery
  7. Soy sauce
  8. Sugar
  9. Salt
  10. Garlic
  11. Ginger and pepper
  12. Pour over meat
  13. Cover and cook on low for 5-1 / 2 to 6 hours or until meat is tender
  14. Add green peppers
  15. Tomato sauce
  16. Bean sprouts
  17. Water chestnuts and mushrooms
  18. Cover and cook on low 1 hour longer
  19. In a small bowl
  20. Combine cornstarch and water until smooth
  21. Stir into beef mixture
  22. Cover and cook on high for 30 minutes or until gravy is thickened
  23. Serve with rice
