oriental chicken thighs

this is one recipe we make quite often. i found this recipe in taste of home. the original recipe calls for cooking in a skillet on the stove, but i also bake it in the oven. same great tasting end result. i reduce the amount of red pepper flakes because we don't like it too hot. i serve it with rice and vegetables. the baking time may differ depending on the size of the thighs.

Steps

  1. Skillet method
  2. Brown chicken in 5 tsp of olive oil until juices run clear
  3. About 18 to 20 minutes
  4. Combine the warm water
  5. Brown sugar
  6. Orange juice
  7. Soya sauce
  8. Ketchup
  9. Vinegar
  10. Garlic
  11. Pepper flakes
  12. And 5 spice powder and mix until sugar is dissolved
  13. Pour over chicken and simmer uncovered for 30 to 35 min or until tender
  14. Turn occasionally
  15. Mix cornstarch and cold water
  16. Add to skillet gradually and cook until thickened
  17. About 2 minutes
  18. Oven method
  19. Brown chicken thighs in olive oil until juices run clear
  20. Arrange chicken thighs in casserole dish
  21. In a saucepan
  22. Mix together the warm water
  23. Brown sugar
  24. Orange juice
  25. Soya sauce
  26. Ketchup
  27. Vinegar
  28. Garlic
  29. Pepper flakes and five-spice powder until sugar melted
  30. Mix cornstarch and water
  31. Add to liquid and heat to boiling
  32. Pour over chicken
  33. Bake uncovered at 350f for 40 min or until juices run clear
  34. Baking time may depend on the size of the thighs
