Steps

  1. For the brownie base: adjust an oven rack to the lower-middle position and heat the oven to 325 degrees
  2. Spray an 8-inch square baking pan with nonstick spray
  3. Line with parchment paper and spray the parchment paper as well
  4. Whisk the flour
  5. Salt
  6. And baking powder together in a small bowl
  7. Set aside
  8. In a medium heatproof bowl set over a pan of almost simmering water
  9. Melt the chocolates and butter
  10. Stirring occasionally until the mixture is smooth
  11. Remove from the heat and whisk in the sugar and vanilla
  12. Let cool slightly
  13. Whisk in the eggs one at a time
  14. Fully incorporating each before adding the next
  15. Continue whisking until completely smooth
  16. Add the dry ingredients and whisk until just incorporated
  17. For the cream cheese filling: in a small bowl
  18. Beat the cream cheese with the sugar
  19. Vanilla
  20. And egg yolk until evenly blended
  21. Pour half the brownie mixture into the pan
  22. Drop half the cream cheese mixture
  23. By spoonfuls
  24. Over the batter
  25. Repeat
  26. Layering the remaining brownie mixture and cream cheese mixture
  27. Use the blade of a table knife to gently swirl the brownie batter and cream cheese filling
  28. Creating a marbled effect
  29. Bake until the edges of the brownies have puffed slightly
  30. The center feels not quite firm when touched lightly
  31. And a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with several moist
  32. Fudgy crumbs adhered to it
  33. About 50 or 60 minutes
  34. Cool the brownies in the pan on a wire rack for 5 minutes
  35. Remove from the pan with the parchment and cool to room temp on the wire rack
  36. Refridgerate until chilled - like 3 hours
  37. Frost with your favorite frosting
