  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees f
  2. Butter and flour a bundt pan
  3. Sift flour
  4. Baking powder
  5. Soda and salt into a bowl
  6. Beat butter at high speed until light and fluffy
  7. About 3 minutes
  8. Add sugar in 2 additions
  9. Beating for 2 minutes after each addition
  10. Beat in lemon zest
  11. Vanilla
  12. And egg yolks and beat until light-colored
  13. On low speed
  14. Beat in flour in 3 additions and buttermilk in 2
  15. Beginning and ending with flour
  16. Stir in poppy seeds
  17. Beat whites separately until foamy
  18. Add pinch of salt
  19. Continue beating until firm
  20. Not stiff peaks form
  21. Stir of whites into batter to lighten
  22. Then fold in remaining whites
  23. Pour into prepared pan
  24. Bake in lower third of oven for about 55 minutes
  25. At serving time
  26. Sprinkle with icing sugar
