Steps

  1. Make the cake: cream butter
  2. Gradually add sugar
  3. Beating well with electric mixer
  4. Add in eggs
  5. One at a time
  6. Beating well after each addition
  7. In another bowl
  8. Combine flour
  9. Baking powder
  10. Soda
  11. And salt
  12. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk
  13. Beginning and ending with flour mixture
  14. Stir in grated coconut and flavorings
  15. Pour batter into greased and flour 13 x 9 inch baking pan
  16. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 35-40 minutes or until a pick comes out clean
  17. Meanwhile make frosting: cream softened butter
  18. Add the remaining ingredients
  19. Beating until smooth
  20. When cake is done
  21. Remove from oven and cool in pan for 10 minutes
  22. Remove cake from pan and place on a serving tray
  23. Let cake cool completely
  24. Spread frosting on top and sides of cake
  25. Garnish with lemon slices
  26. If desired
